Once again we find ourselves enmeshed in the Holiday Season, that very
special time of year when we join with our loved ones in sharing centuries-old
traditions such as trying to find a parking space at the mall. We traditionally
do this with family by driving around the parking lot until we see a shopper
emerge from the mall, then we follow her, in very much the same spirit as the
Three Wise Men, who 2000 years ago followed a star, week after week, until it
led them to a parking space.
Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New
Year to all the families, friends and sponsors of the Point Pelee Karting
Club.
A note from Bill Wright, promoter of the Florida Winter Tour:
Hello
all,
Official FWT Honda GX Cup information can now be found in the Formula kart Class Info section at the FWT web
site.
http://www.floridawintertour.com/2010-fwt-info/class-information/fkr-classes.html
Technical information can be found in the Formula Kart Rules and Regulations section.
http://www.floridawintertour.com/2010-fwt-info/rules-and-regulations/155-fk-rules-and-regulations.html
Note that we intend to run the Senior and Masters together and score
them seperately. However, if the combined classes exceed 34 karts we will
provide seperate classes for each category.
Also note that registration
for the Honda GX classes will open on December 15th. Remember that we must have
12 in a class on February first or we could drop the class. Based on the
response so far I don't think that's going to be a problem!
I want to
again thank BSRKC, Mike Preston, Mike Adams, Lynda and Enzo Chiovitti, Lon
Herder, Robin McLean and everyone who has been involved. With your continued
support I think we'll expose a really great and affordable form of racing to the
FWT participants and businesses.
I want to offer a special THANK YOU to Luis and Wagner from WR
International for providing a seat on the 2010 FWT Granja Team for one lucky
Honda GX Senior or Masters competitor. Just to remind everyone, the Points
Champion of the class with the highest number of entries will be the driver who
goes to Brasil!
To be added to the FWT Honda GX mailing list send an
email with your name, class and kart number request to info@formulakart.com.
I look
forward to seeing you all soon.

The Point Pelee Karting Club again makes news as they launch
the first annual Ultimate Karting Championship to be held on Saturday October
17th. Following a successful night race, and simulated rain race, his final
event of the 2009 season will feature long distance enduro style races in
several classes with times ranging from thirty minutes to two hours. Point
Pelee, Canada's southern most point, boasts great fall weather and maybe the
last best chance for karters to run in 2009.
"Our commitment this year
was to bring back some excitement to karting in the Windsor area," comments
Point Peele Kart Club President Todd Quinlan. "The Ultimate Kart Championship is
another example of a fun race and something we haven't seen before in our
area."
Like the UFC, drivers in the Ultimate Karting Championship will
battle to the end for world (or at least Ontario) domination. The program will
feature classes for all ages and includes such names as Feather Weight and
Welter Weight, giving the event that real knock'em out, drag'em out feel. In
fact the trophy for the winner is named Battle for the Belt. Cash prizes will be
awarded to all classes.

Race 11 of the chase to the Point Pelee Karting Championship sponsored by Paramount Power Systems the The Pritchard Group tightened up the points battles in a number of PPKC divisions. It's going to come down to this weekends final race day to decide the top 3 drivers and where they will stand on the stage on Nov 13 awards banquet at the Roma club, in beautiful downtown Leamington. Three of the most exciting and closest points battles to keep an eye out for this coming weekend are: Jr girls division with the top 4 ladies all within striking distance of the 3 top spots. Although Grant Quinlan holds the top spot in Jr. Light, 2nd is up for grabs between Dowhan and Vaneerd, separated by only a few points. Finally, in the Tag Sr. division, Hardy looks to hold off past track champion Meyer for the 3rd and final spot on the stage. With the final race track configuration being drawn again at the mornings drivers meeting, the final race of the inaugural Point Pelee Karting clubs 2009 season is going to be one of the best of the year to witness some of Southern Ontario's best racers at the top of their game for side by side action in each of their divisions.
The first of the last 3 championships chase race days for all the divisions of the PPKC racing series presented by The Pritchard Group & Paramount Power Systems turned out to be an interesting day with the very fast Sprint track configuration being drawn at Sept 20th mornings drivers meeting. The teams thrashed to set their gearing, jetting and chassis for the very fast track during the morning’s practice sessions to prepare their karts for the afternoon's heat and feature races .Sundays racing event also had a interesting twist with it turning out to be a little "Old dogs Battle of the Border" in the Tag Master's division with a great group of guys making the trip to Point Pelee Karting from Michigan for the weekend. A special thanks goes out to Kim Watzke, and all the Team PPKC USA members, Cory French #14 and his gang Bob Keys #8, Alex Smith #98, and Tom Malacheski #00. and Richard Grey #7 for coming out with their friends and families for the weekend and providing some great side by side racing. Who says old dogs can't learn new tricks. And speaking of old dogs "King Richard Monahan" once again dominated in the arrive and drive division. The next PPKC scheduled DOUBLE POINTS event is this coming Sept 27 with a track configuration that is once again to be drawn at the morning's drivers meeting. Gates open up at 8:00am with practice starting at 9:30am.

As the PPKC Racing Series presented by
The Pritchard Group & Paramount Power Systems scheduled Memorial and Rain
race sponsored by Jose's Noddle factory came to a close last Sunday honouring
past Leamington racers and mechanics Calvin Newman, Paul McMillan, Brian Heron
Jr, and Jason Wills and Peter Frydrychowicz all of the teams came away with a
mountain of notes for their set-up books from tuning chassis and engines to
racing in the man made slick wet racing conditions. A special thanks goes out to
Joel Dick and his crew for trucking in 7500 gallons of water and appling it to
the track all day long, giving all the drivers valuable seat time racing in the
rain like conditions, Great job. PPKC would also like to thank Cody Schindel
from Autosports Media for taking some great photo's of the drivers racing in the
challenging wet conditions. The teams have now headed back to their shops to dry
& clean out up their equipment to prepare for the final 3 races for the
chase in the championships. The next scheduled event is this coming Sept 20 with
a track configuration to be drawn at the morning's drivers
meeting.
****Please note**** Any Tag Sr teams that are competing for the
clubs points Championship ONLY in that division must use the spec Mojo tires for
the final races of the 2009 season.

Heading into the final weekend
of the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship (BSRKC) at Kawartha Downs
Speedway, Grant Quinlan was on the verge of winning his second BSRKC
championship in two years. Leading the points in the Rotax Mini-Max class, Grant
also sat on the outside looking in, in both the Junior Light and Junior Medium
classes positioned second and third in points respectively. Completing the
weekend's events on Monday, Grant and company drove home earning one
championship, one vice-championship and a third place overall.
After
positioning himself near the top of all the timesheets in Saturday practice, the
team felt very positive heading into the next two days of racing.
"After
racing the Kawartha Durham Kart Club race last weekend, I felt very prepared to
take a shot at all three championships this weekend," stated Todd Quinlan, team
owner and father. "We finished up early on Saturday and that gave Grant lots of
time to relax and mentally prepare for the 100 plus laps he will drive on
Sunday."

After a brief break in the
PPKC presented by The Pritchard Group & Paramount Power Systems the buzz of
finely tuned engines are going to be returning to Leamington Ontario for more
side by side racing Sept 13 2009. This is going to be the Point Pelee Karting
Club's memorial race to honour past Point Pelee racers and mechanics Calvin
Newman, Paul McMillan, Brian Heron Jr, Jason Wills and Peter Frydrychowicz It's
also going to be the 1st annual PPKC rain race day. This race is going to be a
first of it's kind to Southern Ontario. Point Pelee Karting, Cole Cacciavillani
& Joel Dick(a local Leamington farmer) are bringing the rain to the track.
The track is going to be watered down for the entire race day by giant field
sprinklers being fed by water tankers to give racers the experience of racing
under controlled wet conditions. Don't miss out, racers from across Ontario and
Michigan are welcome to take part in this special club race day event. It will
be a test not only for the drivers but their crews & mechanics to get the
set-ups just right to battle the man made weather and changing track conditions.
Gates open up at 8:00am Sunday Sept 13th with practise starting at 9:30am.

The Point Pelee Kart Club would like to
thank the Windsor Kart Club for hosting last Sundays interclub races. Dale and
his team of Windsor Kart Club track officials put on an excellent event and made
all the PPKC teams feel right at home for the days schedule of racing. The
challenging track had the PPKC mechanics wrenching hard to find the perfect set
ups while the home WKC teams finely tuned their machines like clockwork. The
PPKC drivers were given a new challenging venue to hone their skills and quickly
learn the new racing lines while the WKC drivers settled in on another day at
the office with the home track advantage. Fun was had by all for a great day of
racing. We hope to expand this interclub racing, with a home and home series
next season so that both clubs can grow and promote the family fun sport of
Karting in Southern Ontario.
Point Pelee Karting Club is teaming up with the Windsor Kart Club for a friendly day of racing this Sunday Aug 23. Races are going to be held at the Windsor Kart Club. Gates open at 8:30am with registration at 9:30am. Drivers meeting at 10:15am with racing to follow. Race day entrance fee is $50.00. PPKC club members are being asked to use a one race old used set of MG tires by the Windsor Kart Club in respect of their own clubs tire rules. For more information on engine rules, fuel specs and directions to the Windsor Kart Clubs home track go to www.999kart.com or call Dale Cooke at 519.999.5278.
The Aug 15 PPKC night race event turned out to be a success for the teams and their families. Many took advantage to the late day start time to have afternoon family bbq's and cookout's. Families had time to visit with friends & neighbours all afternoon at the Point Pelee Karting track waiting for the sun to go down to start racing. Many of the PPKC families even decided to make a whole weekend out of the event camping at the track, having bonfires, cooking up marshmallows, and smores after the races were all done. The Drivers and Mechanics had their work cut out for them adjusting to tune their chassis and engines to the changing track conditions in the late afternoon practice sessions and heat races as the sun was setting. Many gambled on a final set up for the feature races under the lights in the cooler conditions. There were also some very creative karts all glowing and lit up in the night as the feature races started. Good job to all. The Drivers would like to give a big two thumbs up to Freddy's Lounge and Restaurant for sponsoring the night race. Centerline Equipment Rentals, Economy Rental, Leamington Equipment Rentals and Amico Construction for generously donating the portable lighting to light up the facility for the Friday night practices and the Sat night shoot out. A special thanks goes out to Cole Cacciavillani, Jason Papp and the Point Pelee Karting grounds crew for spending their time Friday night in the dark setting the portable lights up and adjusting everything just right to make the weekend safe for all the drivers. Next race is Sept 13 on the tracks Sprint configuration......bring your rain tires.
As the PPKC teams finished up the sweltering Aug 9th race day presented by De Angelis Construction and the Leamington Fire Dept's Toy's for Tot's drive they were tossing out their sun block & sunglasses for night vision goggles and flashlights and heading back to their shops to prepare for this weekend's races. Southern Ontario's Karting version of Nascar's 1/2 mile bullring Bristol. That's right, Sat night shoot out racing under the lights at Point Pelee Karting. The north shore of Lake Erie is going to be lit up like a roman candle for racing at the track's Daytona layout on Aug 15th. This track configuration will provide some of the season's fastest speeds for all the classes. Practise under the lights is being offered by www.PointPeleeKarting.com until 10:30 pm Friday night Aug 14th and the PPKC Racing Series presented by The Pritchard Group & Paramount Power Systems will be held on Saturday. The race day gates and registration open at 2:00 pm Saturday and practice starts at 3:30 pm with the finals for all classes being run under the lights.
Now the PPKC midseason championship weekend presented by The Pritchard Group
& Paramount Power Systems has been put into the books as one of the season's
highlight real weekends with the 30 lap feature races and the PPKC teams have
returned home from the Bear hunt in Shannonville the focus has been shifted to
this weekends events at Leamington's Point Pelee Karting's Lemans track
configuration. This technical track layout will provide some close racing and
the drivers skills will be tested at each turn. As part of PPKC's on going
commitment to the local community & the sport of karting. Each entry is
being asked to bring an unwrapped toy as part of their registration. The toys at
the end of the day will donated to Toy's for Tot's.
The Sunparlor Kart
Club members will also be making a presentation & donation to Cancer
research on behalf of Steve Jacob's from last winter's Kart Raffle, swap meet
& offseason fund raising efforts. Steve is a cancer survivor and a long time
competitor at Point Pelee. He will be climbing back into a kart for the days
racing events in the Tag Sr class. Go get em Steve !
PPKC would also like
to wish all the club's USA members who are heading off to Circleville Ohio to
compete in the Great Lakes Pro Series Races this coming weekend good luck! GO
Team PPKC USA GO!
Point Pelee Karting Club would like to welcome The Pritchard Group &
Paramount Power Systems as title sponsors for the 2009 PPKC racing season.
Special thanks goes out to Mike Veloso from The Pritchard Group & Paul
Lattavo from Paramount Power Systems for supporting PPKC and grass roots kart
racing in Southern Ontario.
The Pritchard Group & Paramount Power
Systems Inc. along with CFI, Quinlan Inc. and the town of Leamington have all
come together to help make PPKC's first season one to remember. Within the next
few weeks a set of nine race control caution and stop lights completely wired to
the race control tower at the Point Pelee Track. The new lighting system is
going to be similar to what you would see at places such as the Toronto Honda
Indy or at Michigan International Speedway. Once this new race control lighting
system is installed it is going to be an extra value added safety feature for
all the racers.
This weeks
race is going to be one of PPKC's most interesting new formats, with the mid
season championships on the line in many classes. Each class is going to get 2
practice sessions. Following the practice sessions each class will qualify to
set their grid position with the fastest on pole. For the main race in each
class, the finals are going to be a survival of the fittest with the races being
a gruelling 30 laps long, beginning with an "F1 style standing start." On top of
this new race day format nobody will know the track configuration until the
drivers meeting the morning of the race, to make this fare to for anyone not
being able to make it to the track to practice during the week. This will also
make it competative for any other karters from clubs across Ontario and Michigan
to join in on the fun and win some great trophies.
Fantastic
weather visited the south-western corner of Ontario as the Point Pelee Karting
facility played host to round one of the Point Pelee Karting Club 2009 schedule.
Hot off the heels of launching a new club website, the executive prepared the
track for a full slate of classes and racing activities.
"Our plan is to
build membership and momentum at the same time," comments Point Pelee Kart Club
President Todd Quinlan. "The turnout was good and gives us a chance to work out
some bugs and improve our operations."
